This lidded gourd is 5.5 inches tall and 5 inches wide. The tip of a deer antler crowns the lid. Lacey was the base for the inlay, to which a substantial amount of Turquoise granules were added. In this piece, the natural gourd color becomes an important contrasting accent. The pot's rim is defined with a double tier of hand stitching. The symmetry of the gourd and the design make this a favorite of the artist.
My philosophy is that art should embrace and enhance nature. People ask me if I "made the piece." I say "no, but that I decorated it." Truth. Philosophically, I want to create pieces that speak to people's sense of beauty with symmetry, color and touch. I sign each piece before I work on it reminding me that my reputation is going out to the world.
My influences include Southwestern, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Modern, and geometric influences. My creed is 'one of a kind' so that you will never find two alike.
