Gourd Puppets and Dolls: A Do-It-Yourself Guide for Crafters, by C. Angela Mohr, is divided into an Introduction, six key chapters, a Concluding Words, and a Gallery. A one page Introduction is followed by a two page Chapter One; 'Gourd Preparation, and 'Equipment'. Chapter Two (three pages) covers 'Facial Features'. Chapter Three (three pages) covers 'Hand Sewing'. Chapter Four (nineteen pages) presents projects on 'Rag Dolls' and ' Marionettes'. Chapter Five (twelve pages) presents 'Flip-flop Dolls'. Chapter Six (nineteen pages) presents projects on 'Stick and Finger Puppets', 'Sock Puppets', and 'Bobble Heads'. Gourd Puppets and Dolls: A Do-It-Yourself Guide for Crafters ends with 'Concluding Words', and a four page Gallery.
Chapter Four of Gourd Puppets and Dolls utilizes forty-three pictures to illustrate the Rag Dolls project section, and thirty-two pictures to illustrate the Marionette project. Chapter Five use forty-eight pictures to present the Flip-flop Dolls project. Chapter Six uses thirty-two pictures to illustrate the project progression of Stick and Finger Puppets, twenty-one for Sock Puppets, and thirty for Bobble Heads. The presentation of each section is almost entirely visual, relying upon images to present the material. Virtually all of the images are captioned with a description of the work. The bulk of the text is given to picture captioning and descriptions. The images guide the process. This is a common approach taken with Schiffer publications.
