Making Gourd Ornaments, by Angela Mohr, shows the reader how to create a variety of Christmas themed gourd ornaments. Designs include birdhouses, snowmen, and tree toppings.
The book is divided into three main sections. The first section, Figuring Out the Hanging Part (six pages), covers 'A Wrap', 'A Double Loop', 'A Ring', and 'Ornament Hooks'.
The bulk of Making Gourd Ornaments is devoted to the second section, Let's Make Some Ornaments (forty-three pages), which puts the reader to work on projects. Five projects are presented in great detail: Birdhouse, Snowman, Angel, Tree Ball and Double Tree Ball, and Tree Topper or Wall Hanging. The photography is excellent, and shows each step with a close-up view of the work in progress. For example, the Snowman project uses nineteen pictures to take the crafter through each step of the process. Thirty-four pictures are used to present the Angel project. The presentations of all the projects are visually based, and each project relies upon the pictures to show the crafter what is happening. Almost every picture is nicely captioned with a description of the work being done. In fact, the majority of the book's text is devoted to picture captioning and descriptions. The images guide the process of creating the ornaments.
The third, and final, section of Making Gourd Ornaments is devoted to an eleven page Gallery of completed gourd ornaments.
